چکیده
We present herein an experimental study on the ice-nucleation kinetics of two recently introduced aqueous supercooling modalities—oil-sealed isobaric and isochoric supercooling. A series constant-cooling rate experiments compare apparent nucleation temperatures pure water supercooled under these modalities with conventional open-air supercooling, demonstrating that both methods significantly enhance supercoolability system as compared to However, while mean are statistically comparable, displays approximately half variability oil-sealed which may have important implications design supercooling-based biopreservation protocols in stability reproducibility paramount.

Water has a complex phase diagram with more than 16 crystalline phases, two glass phases and liquid which displays many unique behaviors, especially in the region of -45 °C (Mishima and Stanley 1998, Stokely et al. 2010). It can remain a liquid even under conditions where a more stable phase exists, and in those conditions is said to be supercooled. Supercooled water can be prompted to turn int...
متن کاملA Study of Water Supercooling
The objective of this paper is to investigate water supercooling. Supercooling occurs when a liquid does not freeze although its temperature is below its freezing point. In general, supercooling is an unstable condition and occurs under special conditions. The parameters that influence supercooling stability and probability of occurrence include freezer temperature and water’s initial temperatu...

Using the emulsion method, we measured the homogeneous nucleation temperature depression, DeltaT(f,hom), and equilibrium melting points depression, DeltaT(m), of various aqueous solutions and then calculated lambda for each solute using the linear relationship DeltaT(f,hom) = lambdaDeltaT(m). We defined lambda as the solute-specific supercooling capacity and examined its correlation with some k...
